4 Central North Carolina counties issue states of emergency due to Chantal flooding

RALEIGH, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein gave an update on social media at 2 p.m. on July 7 after Central and Eastern North Carolina experienced flooding due to rains from Tropical Depression Chantal.

Stein said the following counties issued states of emergencies: Alamance, Person, Moore and Orange.

Stein reported that the State Emergency Response Team is coordinating resources and support to supplement local response. He also reported that Interstate 40 had reopened in Alamance County.

“Please stay safe…listen to guidance from local authorities, and before you head out onto the roads, be aware of road closures and flooding in your area,” he said in the post.

Stein thanked the North Carolina Department of Transportation, North Carolina Emergency Management, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and local first responders who were helping impacted communities and working to reopen roadways.
