SAVANNAH, Ga. (TNND) — At 10:56 a.m. Wednesday morning, law enforcement was dispatched to Fort Stewart after a report of a shooting in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex.
A 911 dispatch call reveals the details of the initial call after 5 soldiers were shot.
“Mutual aid request for gunshot wounds at Fort Stewart.”
The dispatcher directed law enforcement to the complex on base, repeating “gunshot wound, mutual aid.”
“There’s possibly five patients. They have both of their EMS trucks on scene. The scene is clear. Everything is secure. We don’t know who has what. Multiple people injured.”
As a result of the shooting, five soldiers are being treated for injuries, with two of the soldiers being sent to a local hospital.
No one was killed in the attack.
The shooter, 28-year-old Armory Logistics Sergeant Quornelius Radford, was apprehended at 11:35 a.m.
Multiple news agencies are reporting the shooter to be a male Army sergeant.
A law enforcement official told CNN that the suspect had been previously arrested in May during a traffic stop for driving under the influence.
The Army says they are investigating the incident.
The Army’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team was created in 2016 when the service added more than 200 vehicles to an infantry unit of roughly 4,200 soldiers. Also known as the “Spartan Brigade,” the Army has called the unit its “most modern land fighting force.”
Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It’s home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division and family members.
