How creative can you get with your first free checklist?

Like many other games, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 offers up a New Game+ mode for players who want to go through the journey to defeat the Paintress once again. But what does it entail?

This page acts as a comprehensive breakdown of New Game Plus in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, including what new things there are to find.

It should go without saying, but to begin New Game+ you will of course need to have beaten the main story of the game. Once credits have rolled and you have returned to the main menu, you can select ‘Continue’ and you’ll be returned to the world map just before you entered Lumiere for the final confrontation.

You can then go to any Rest Point Flag in the game (the quickest one to access is via your Camp), and a new ‘New Game+’ option will be selectable. You’ll receive a warning stating that fights and enemies will be more challenging, but new rewards will await you.

Importantly, the following things will be reset when you begin New Game+:

And these are the things that you will preserve and carry over into your New Game+ run:

  • Character Progression
  • Inventory (including Pictos and Lumina)

Now that you’ve begun your New Game+ journey, the story will remain unchanged. You can of course select different dialogue options throughout the game to see interactions, or choose a different ending, but the primary differences will be in the loot you can collect.

Enemies across the board will be more difficult to defeat, but there are no changes to attack patterns or any new attacks – they’ll just be spongier to accomodate for the power creep you’ll be able to achieve.

You’ll be receiving better upgrade materials and resources sooner, like higher-tier Chroma Catalysts and more Colour of Luminas to further enhance your party and their weapons.

You won’t find any new weapons, outfits, music records, or journals in New Game+ though – so keep expectations in check!

In addition, you can recollect Pictos from the same positions they were in on your first playthrough and you’ll automatically upgrade them to a much higher level for free, increasing the passive stats that they provide! A few early examples include:

  • Dodger
  • Increases to Level 21 – 462 Speed, 12% Crit Rate
  • Critical Burn
  • Increases to Level 21 – 293 Speed, 23% Crit Rate
  • Augmented Aim
  • Increases to Level 23 – 552 Speed, 13% Crit Rate
