100 men vs gorilla death match goes viral but could man survive the wild beast

Not a fight you’d want to take on your own

We’ve all seen the video of a computer-generated gorilla smacking down 100 men in a strange fight that no one knew they needed – the beast flattens floods of humans coming at him, but how would the battle of the primates actually transpire in real life?

The internet has been sent into uproar after one man asked the question: “Who would win in a fight between 100 men or one silverback gorilla?”. The debate was sparked on the social media site, X, after one user announced unproved: “I think 100 [redacted] (guys) could beat 1 gorilla everyone just got to be dedicated to that s***.”

Some commentators below the tweet – which was viewed a staggering 288 million times – have declared the 100 men would prevail in the bout because of the overwhelming number advantage over the gorilla.

But while there is debate over the victor, the internet is in agreement that the first man to engage with the gorilla in combat would not be making it out alive – with social media users now making memes on the gruesome fate of the “first guy”, whose skull would probably be cracked like an egg.

Many pondering if the 100 vs 1 combat would be possible if the men were unarmed have turned to technology to find an answer, using AI and simulations. One simulation has been constructed showing just how formidable of an opponent the beast would be against the 100 men, as the gorilla can be seen rag-dolling numerous men with ease before swatting away countless more as if they were flies.

Now that’s gotta hurt!

To find out who exactly would win in a real-life scenario, we turned to a AI ChatGPT. “In almost all realistic scenarios, 100 unarmed men could overpower a gorilla,” the system said.

The AI software said while male gorillas do possess overwhelming strength and are a whopping four to nine times stronger than a human adult, it believes mankind would still prevail over the beast.

ChatGPT said if the 100 men were uncoordinated and attacked in “waves” due to being panicked, afraid and lacking conviction, the gorilla could cause serious damage.

“If coordinated, disciplined, and ready to die: Men could win, but it would be brutal,” the chatbot said.

“[If the men] swarmed it all at once, accepted major casualties and used coordinated grappling tactics to pin it—then sheer numbers and body weight could eventually bring it down.

“But it would likely kill or seriously injure dozens before that happened.”

Due to the extremely unethical nature of an 100-man vs gorilla death match, it is unlikely we will ever get a definitive answer to the internet’s burning question.

Leaning into the question, YouTube superstar Mr Beast posted a fake video thumbnail as he joked he was looking for “100 men for his latest challenge video”.

Wildlife experts have weighed in on the debate and have echoed similar sentiments of ChatGPT, predicting humanity will prevail over the beast.

Despite not wanting to see the potential scrap ever occur, Ron Magill, wildlife conservationist and director at Miami Zoo, said if the men “are committed and go in united” the victory will be assured for mankind.

Influencers and content creators have also begun drafting fantasy teams of humanity’s toughest soldiers who they would deploy to face the gorilla.

So, with AI, various experts and thousands online announcing who they think would prevail in a bout, who do you think would emerge victorious?
