Meridian native Jamal Roberts made it to the Top 3 on “American Idol” after his performance Monday. Roberts performed “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell from the movie “Remember the Titans.”On Sunday, Roberts performed “Go the Distance” from Disney’s “Hercules” and “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke, which he dedicated to his stepmother in honor of Mother’s Day.He will perform again during Sunday’s episode, which airs at 7 p.m. on 16 WAPT.If Roberts continues his streak, he could sing his way into becoming the next “American Idol.”Roberts, 27, is a physical education teacher at Crestwood Elementary School in Meridian. The city is hosting a parade and concert beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14. The parade begins at the Lauderdale County Courthouse, and ends at Meridian City Hall, where Roberts will hold a “mini-concert” at 7 p.m.
