Woman in custody after slow-moving pursuit through Nashville in stolen vehicle

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman is in police custody following an hours-long pursuit through Davidson County that started around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

According to authorities, the vehicle was initially spotted in the 800 block of Burnett Road in Old Hickory with a woman asleep inside. Officers reportedly checked the tag in a police database, and it was confirmed to be stolen. When officers attempted to approach the car, the woman allegedly drove into two police cars and nearly struck two officers before driving away.

Spike strips were deployed on the vehicle, damaging all four tires. The car drove down Murfreesboro Pike and into Antioch at speeds of 5 mph.

Around 7 a.m., the vehicle moved onto Interstate 24 back toward downtown Nashville. At approximately 7:30 a.m., Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers stopped the vehicle on Interstate 24 westbound near mile marker 53.9.

When asked why she didn’t stop, police said she told officers, “I’m already on paper for ten years anyway.”

Authorities later identified the woman as 28-year-old Katlyn Gayle Wray. A press release from the Metro Nashville Police Department said she has been charged with two counts of vehicle theft, five counts of evading arrest with risk of injury, three counts of aggravated reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of vandalism and driving on a suspended license.

Metro Police said Wray had been on probation for a November 2023 forgery conviction and has been convicted of aggravated burglary in Cheatham County. At the time of her arrest, police said she had an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft involving a Ford Fiesta she reportedly “borrowed” from a friend in May and did not return.

As of publication, she’s being held on a $107,000 bond.
