Pres. Trump reacts to ‘Late Show’ cancellation: ‘I absolutely love that Colbert got fired’

President Trump is celebrating the end of CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” he wrote on Truth Social. “His talent was even less than his ratings.”

The president then directed his attention to other late night hosts.

“I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great ‘Tonight Show.’”

The comments come hours after Paramount, CBS’s parent company, announced the show is coming to an end in May 2026 and it was for financial reasons only.

“We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire ‘THE LATE SHOW’ franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television,” the company told CBS News.

Although it may not be directly related, this comes days after the comedian criticized Paramount’s settlement with Trump.

“While I was on vacation, my parent corporation, Paramount, paid Donald Trump a $16 million settlement of his 60 Minutes lawsuit. As someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I am offended, and I don’t know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company. But just taking a stab at it, I’d say $16 million would help,” he joked. “Now I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles, it’s big fat bribe. This all comes as Paramount’s owners are trying to get the Trump Administration to approve a sale of our network to a new owner, Skydance.”

Earlier this month, Money Watch reported that Paramount Global parent National Amusements and Skydance Media agreed to merge after talks ended previously.

Many are coming to Colbert’s defense, including California Senator Adam Schiff, who was a guest on his show Thursday night.

“Just finished taping with Stephen Colbert, who announced his show was cancelled. If Paramount and CBS ended ‘The Late Show’ for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better,” he wrote on X.

Celebrities are also jumping into the conversation as well.

“Sorry to hear CBS is canceling one of the best shows they have. Wishing all the people who work so hard on that show all the best,” wrote actor Ben Stiller.

Kimmel also supported his fellow late-night anchor writing on his Instagram Stories: “Love you Stephen. F–k you and all your Sheldons CBS.”

Colbert has been with “The Late Show” since September 2015, when he took over for the original host, late-night legend David Letterman.
