According to The Athletic, Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon are on the verge of finalising a deal for Viktor Gyokeres, bringing an end to a two-week stand-off over the structure of the add-on payments.
The two clubs had already agreed that the Gunners would pay a guaranteed £54.8 million for the Sweden international, but there was considerable debate over the achievability of a further £8.6 million in performance-related bonuses.
Sporting were keen for the full amount to be little more than a formality, while Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta pushed for £2 million of that total to be tied to more stringent conditions.
Earlier in negotiations, the player’s representatives agreed to waive their commission to help get the deal over the line.
With only “finishing touches and some minor tweaks” required, Arsenal will be hoping to confirm Gyokeres’ signing quickly so he can be packed off to Singapore to join up with his new teammates.
