Morgan Wallen is selling ‘Get Me to God’s Country’ merch after his abrupt ‘SNL’ exit

Country singer Morgan Wallen attracted a lot of attention over the weekend, when he walked off the stage at Saturday Night Live, on which he was the musical guest, earlier than the audience is used to seeing. Now there’s merch for that.

Fans can purchase a T-shirt or one of two colors of hats bearing the phrase, “Get me to God’s country,” which Wallen posted alongside a photo of a plane on his Instagram Stories after departing SNL. They’re $45 each.

Normally, the musical guest and the celebrity who hosted spend those last moments, which Wallen missed, exchanging hugs and thank yous with the cast. On Saturday’s episode, hosted by actress Mikey Madison, Wallen performed two songs from his upcoming album I’m the Problem, the title track and “Just in Case,” before whispering something to the Anora actress and walking off stage. The credits were still rolling.

Earlier, Wallen also declined to be part of a pre-taped sketch, according to the New York Post‘s Page Six. Instead, singer Joe Jonas appeared alongside Madison and cast members Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Ego Nwodim, and Chloe Fineman, poking fun at New York City trends that require serious patience, called “Big Dumb Line.”

SNL cast member Kenan Thompson, who worked on Wallen’s episode, told EW on Monday that he took issue with the singer’s “God’s country” message.

“The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella?” Thompson said. “That’s not necessarily my favorite.”

Wallen has now performed on the sketch show twice. After his first scheduled appearance was cancelled because he flouted COVID-19 protocols, his debut was then moved to December.

The former contestant on The Voice (season 6) is scheduled to release his fourth album May 16.
