Central Indiana remains under flood watch, flood warning

Central Indiana remains under a flood warning until 10:30 a.m. Thursday and a flood watch until Sunday morning after hazardous storms pummeled the Indianapolis area Wednesday night.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service say multiple rounds of heavy rainfall will impact central Indiana throughout the week. A 20% chance of isolated showers are possible after 3 p.m., according to NWS, with an 80% chance of showers Thursday night into Friday morning.
As of Thursday, central Indiana’s weather forecast appears wet and rainy.
Friday: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 64. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 56. East wind around 9 mph becoming south after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11 am, then showers between 11am and 2 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 65. Southwest wind around 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Saturday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 42. North wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Nearly 100,000 Hoosiers are without power Thursday

As of 7:30 a.m., over 97,000 Indiana customers are without power in Indiana.
The largest number of power outages for the state are coming out of Marion County with over 23,500 people affected.
Floyd County along the Indiana-Kentucky border has over 11,800 people without power and Madison County northeast of Indianapolis has a little over 10,000 people without power.
Over two dozen counties across the state have more than 1,000 customers without power.

IPS goes to remote learning

Indianapolis Public Schools said it will be having an asynchronous learning day because of power outages across multiple buildings.
AES Indiana is reporting more than 27,000 customers across Indianapolis remain without power early Thursday. Duke Energy is reporting 38,027 customers across the state without power, mostly along the path of the storm.
In Anderson, widespread outages and storm damage prompted the closure of all schools Thursday. Because many homes were without power, they opted not to attempt an e-Learning day. Only staff members asked to assist with storm damage cleanup and recovery are expected to attend.
The district hopes to resume instruction Friday, but that depends on how quickly power is restored.
