Last month, ESPN’s FPI ranked Georgia eighth in the conference in strength of schedule. This week, Brandon Marcello at CBSSports set out to rank the strength of schedule among SEC teams without using computers or analytics to develop a metric. Instead, Marcello parsed the data, projections, game placement, and bye weeks to determine the difficulty among each team in the conference. Georgia, ranked as a preseason top-five team according to most outlets, is 14th among the 16 SEC teams in strength of schedule, according to the outlet.
Any schedule with Alabama, Tennessee and Texas is difficult, but the setup is about as good as it can get for Georgia. The Bulldogs travel only to Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State, and do not have back-to-back road games. The Bulldogs also get a week to rest and prepare for Alabama (Sept. 27) after traveling to Tennessee (Sept. 13). Hosting Alabama and Texas is huge. Otherwise, the Bulldogs get to feast on the bottom half of the SEC (Kentucky and Mississippi State) and play payout games against Marshall , Austin Peay and Charlotte . The Georgia Tech game will also be played inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium instead of Bobby Dodd Stadium, and it’s sure to be filled mostly with Bulldog fans.
Earlier this month, Bookies.com released an article comparing how many miles every SEC team will travel on the road this fall. Texas led the conference with 9,077.22 miles, while Georgia was last among the 16 teams with 1,886.49 miles. Georgia’s longest road trip is to Mississippi State, which will see the Bulldogs travel 626.76 miles round-trip. The next shortest road game in the conference is Tennessee at Florida, with the Volunteers traveling 765.22 miles. The longest road game among SEC teams this fall will be when Oklahoma plays at Temple, traveling 2,132.74 miles round trip, further than Georgia’s entire road slate. Texas is right behind, with the Longhorns going 2,132.08 miles for its road game at Ohio State.
Georgia’s 2025 road schedule would have also been at the bottom of the conference last season, as Auburn traveled the least number of miles in 2024, with its 2,481.06 still being 594.57 more miles than the Dawgs are set to travel this fall. In 2024, Georgia traveled 4,043.70 miles for six road games, averaging 808.74 miles per trip. The 377.29 average miles per road game is by far the least in the conference this season or last, with Kentucky next at 508.2 miles this fall and Vanderbilt last in the conference last season at 592.66 miles per road game.
