DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — Flooding continues to be a problem around our area, home damage has been reported in Daphne. ALDOT has closed some of Highway 90 here and the rain is still coming down. While most of the time this water is diverted and makes its way to Mobile Bay, sometimes it’s more rain than the roadways and culverts can handle.
Sunday night we found at least one flooding victim, that was along Bay View Drive. The heavy rain began accumulating closing some roadways and filling up retention ponds and ditches.
Eventually, it made its way inside Duane Ashmore’s home.
Inside his home is a mess. The water came up nearly to his door knob flooding the living room, garage and bedroom. There’s a lot to clean up and the homeowner says as the rain came down, the problems got worse.
“I’ll look out the window. And I said, I don’t think the plants are going to be the problem. And it just at the time, it was probably ten feet from the house and then within 10 to 15 minutes it it covered that distance and it got up to the window level outside the house,” said Ashmore.
It’s been a long night for a number of homeowners and by day break we’ll get a better idea of the extent of the damage as there is going to be some cleanup left to do.daybreak
