On a brisk and breezy Wednesday morning at Harbour Links Golf Course, Pro-Am day started bright and early at 7 a.m.
Other than the professionals and golf lovers that visited the course, dozens of volunteers lined the many sidewalks, parking lots and tents scattered around the 2025 RBC Heritage tournament presented by Boeing.
These volunteers, locals who call the Hilton Head and Bluffton area home (or those within an hour away from the course), contribute their time and energy to ensure the tournament is seamless.
While much of the focus during the week goes toward the pro-golfers that grace the green, it’s the faces you may miss that put tons of energy and training into making their work look effortless, too.
From directing the parking lots, hospitality, security, child care, concession shops and more, RBC Heritage volunteers lend their time to fill the many roles needed to keep this event going.
Their work extends far beyond the golf course and seeps into every aspect of the week-long tournament, including media support, tournament staffers and spectators.
During the tournament week, volunteers can take on over 16 hours of work, depending on the role.
These volunteers are responsible for keeping up the exciting spirit of the event, all while staying responsible for important decisions when things go wrong.
Here are just a few of the volunteer groups and faces you may see around the Sea Pines Resort for RBC Heritage this week:
Hospitality Ambassadors
The volunteers welcome and direct guests to the correct location and provide information at the course entrance.
The 2025 RBC Heritage tournament marks the second year that the couple Keith and Lynne Barker have served as volunteers.

“Hilton Head is our place and it’s always fun to do this, because we do everything together,” said Keith Barker.
His wife Lynne echoed this fondness of working together: “We’re a team and it’s always a great time to share this experience with each other,” she said.
Traffic Manager
These volunteers are responsible for directing spectators, shuttles and cars to their destinations, along with keeping parking lots orderly.
Sophia Brown is a softball player at Hilton Head High School and this is her first year volunteering at the tournament.

“It was certainly chilly this morning, but the opportunity to meet other players on my softball team, interact with visitors, players and other volunteers has been priceless,” Brown said.
Gallery Management
Perhaps the most exciting position is the volunteers in gallery management, who work inside the ropes and right on the course to help ensure plays proceed smoothly, safely and that there are limited distractions for players.

“Working Pro-Am day is such a great experience. It’s always so much fun to see families and friends come together to enjoy the game of golf,” said Dave Conner, a third-year volunteer.
