CLEANUP | Restoration crews arrive at governor’s residence after arson attack

Investigators say early Sunday morning, 38-year-old Cody Balmer gained access by scaling the fence, breaking windows and throwing Molotov cocktails to ignite fires.The incident was caught on video but will not be released to the public due to the ongoing investigation, police said.Because of the complexity of the governor’s residence, fire crews had to cut through the fence to get firefighters and water hoses to the flames quickly, according to Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline. Crews arrived on scene about 15 minutes after the fire started and were able to contain the blaze in about half an hour, Enterline said. Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were home and asleep when the fire broke out, but they were not hurt, investigators said. HARRISBURG, Pa. —Restoration crews have arrived at the governor’s residence following an arson attack that caused millions of dollars in damage.

Trucks and roll-off dumpsters were seen coming in and out of the property for cleanup on Tuesday morning.

Investigators say early Sunday morning, 38-year-old Cody Balmer gained access by scaling the fence, breaking windows and throwing Molotov cocktails to ignite fires.

The incident was caught on video but will not be released to the public due to the ongoing investigation, police said.

Because of the complexity of the governor’s residence, fire crews had to cut through the fence to get firefighters and water hoses to the flames quickly, according to Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline.

Crews arrived on scene about 15 minutes after the fire started and were able to contain the blaze in about half an hour, Enterline said.

Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were home and asleep when the fire broke out, but they were not hurt, investigators said.

The Pennsylvania State Police have not commented on what security was like that night due to the ongoing investigation.

A court appearance and preliminary hearing for Balmer are scheduled for April 23.
