Besides one minor league trade back in January, the Buffalo Sabres have not made a deal since last June. That was when the Blue and Gold acquired center Ryan McLeod. So far that has worked out pretty good though the scales could tip down the road. But with the horse hockey season the Sabres are having, it’s quite surprising GM Kevyn Adams has not made one NHL trade yet this calendar year. A bouncing baby girl or boy could have been conceived and delivered already in the time since we picked up McLeod. “Do something, Darcy!” has been the rallying cry around here. Meanwhile, the team sits in last place in the Eastern Conference and looks as lost as ever. They are just weeks away from an official 14 year playoff drought.

Depending on who you talk to, everyone from a few players to the whole team is up for grabs. Dahlin seems to be the one constant to stay. (poor guy) Joker seems to be a foregone conclusion to be dealt as his 1 year deal is up. The Sabres treatment of him this season has been suspect as well. But I have to think it was Joker himself who didn’t want the long term deal last summer. He wanted a pathway out and a better pay day. I can’t imagine Buffalo souring on him so quickly without his unwillingness to stay. He has been a solid contributor and one of our few right handed shots on D.

Elsewhere on the team, Cozens has been the most discussed player to deal. Will the Sabres show more patience with him or will they pull the trigger? Byram, Tuch, Power, Peterka and others have all been talking points too. Please, whoever is on the move, don’t get swindled Sabres. And maybe don’t deal with a Stanley Cup favorite either? I expect the big changes will happen in the off season anyways. But stepping stone deals can be had right now. Let us hope some improvements come our way by the deadline and progress can be made with this mess. Feel free to discuss and report any deals here.
