The Memphis Grizzlies, somehow, are on an even worse streak than Dallas is at the moment. They’re losers of their last four games – that’s compared to Dallas’ streak of three, or, in other words, just a flesh wound.
Which team do you figure has a better chance of getting of the snide Friday night?
Have fun with it
Sometimes, in the NHL, circumstances arise such that a team is required to call up an “emergency goalie” due to injuries to all the other goalies on the roster. Usually some beer-league player or zamboni driver. It’s a great story for everybody and everyone has a lot of fun with it on the rare occasions that it happens.
I don’t WANT more Dallas players to get injured…BUT! What’s a more fun story: a depleted Dallas Mavericks lost by 30 points. Or… the Dallas Mavericks gave one lucky former Division III NCAA player in attendance the story of a lifetime! And lost by 30.
Chuck it, Max
In the loosely defined “modern era” of the NBA, the record for field goal attempts belongs to none other than Kobe Bryant; patron saint of horrible NBA GMs. Kobe took 50 shots in 2016. I think Max Christie should try and take 51.
I don’t know if passing Kobe would endear him to Nico or ensure he’s traded in the offseason for a 36-year-old, but I think it’s an experiment worth trying. It’s clear Christie has been holding back from becoming a leading-scorer level player because any Maverick who scores 20 points immediately suffers a lower body injury, but there’s plenty of time to rehab whichever ankle he sprains before next season.
Let Dwight Powell shoot threes
There was a stretch of about four or five years, when Powell was an actual, 20 minute per game rotation player, that he really tried to add the three pointer to his game. He was taking between 1 and 1.6 three-point attempts per game between the seasons of 2016 and 2020.
He never shot better than 33%, usually worse, and eventually gave up on adding the skill, content to be an energy big and efficient down-low scorer. Well, who cares about all that now? There’s still time. Dwight could be the next Brook Lopez. Let him shoot threes. He’s shooting 100% on them this year (that’s 1-of-1), making him probably the best shooter on the team. The team as a whole hasn’t shot better than 33% in their last four games, so it’s not like Dwight adding a couple at his career average is going to hurt anything. Seize Nico Harrison’s assets and distribute them to the people as punishment for his crimes.
