ORLANDO, Fla. — Three shots separated Collin Morikawa from Russell Henley with five holes to play Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
It was not enough.
Henley found magic in the final stretch at Bay Hill, with a birdie on the par-3 14th and then a chip-in eagle on the par-5 16th to grab his first PGA Tour win since 2022. Playing in the final group together, the duo took their match to the 18th hole, where Henley had 3 feet and 4 inches for par and the win. The 35-year-old Georgia native was typically nondescript after the win, only really breaking into a smile after his young daughter ran onto the green.
Henley shot a final-round 70 to finish at 11 under for the week, one shot ahead of Morikawa. Henley played Bay Hill’s final five holes 3 under, and Morikawa was 1 over with a bogey on 14.
Corey Conners finished in third at 9 under.
Henley is in the middle of a resurgence in his career — Presidents Cup captain Jim Furyk rewarded his steady play with a captain’s pick last fall, and Henley found a partnership with Scottie Scheffler. Now he has a signature event win — his first win of any kind since the November 2022 World Wide Technology Championship — and has to be considered an odds-on pick to be a part of the Ryder Cup team this fall.
For Morikawa, this is more disappointment — it has been 504 days since his last win, and he’s considered the best player in the world without a win since Jan. 1, 2024. He raved about his iron play Saturday night after shooting a 67 to take the lead but lost 1.51 strokes approaching the green Sunday, ninth worst in the field.
Keegan Bradley set a Bay Hill course record with a 29 on the front nine, vaulting himself from 27th to start the day into the top five with a round of 64. He stuck around the course to see what happened but settled for a top-five finish.
