Sean McVay isn’t just a great X’s and O’s coach. He’s also a great leader of men – and as it turns out, a fantastic recruiter, too.
When McVay sees a player he wants on the Los Angeles Rams, he goes after them hard. Davante Adams was his target this offseason, making a strong push to land the star wide receiver in the team’s biggest move so far.
The Rams and Adams agreed to a two-year deal worth $46 million and it was McVay who led the charge in recruiting. It wasn’t easy, either. As Peter Schrager notes, Adams is currently in Japan, so McVay had to work around the 17-hour time difference to convince the wideout to sign with the Rams.
McVay has made the Rams a destination team for free agents as a coach players want to play for. It’s what helped keep Matthew Stafford in L.A. and it also lured Adams to the Rams – in addition to getting the chance to play back home on the West Coast.
It’s just another example of the remarkable impact McVay has had on this organization.
