Tens of thousands of X users reported outages throughout Monday, as a “massive cyberattack” targets the platform, owner Elon Musk said.
Why it matters: The app formerly known as Twitter has experienced several widespread outages since Musk took over in 2022. Other competitors have founded apps as the social media landscape has become more partisan and polarized.
- “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources,” Musk wrote on X. “Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”
Driving the news: Outage reports started at about 6am ET and spiked around 10am with 41,000 reports, per Downdetector, which tracks website and app outages.
- On Downdetector, 57% reported problems with the app, while 32% reported issues with the website.
- The outages were reported across the U.S.
