Ex Steelers’ Russell Wilson Negotiating With AFC Rival

According to sources, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is currently negotiating with the Tennessee Titans to be their next starting quarterback. There has been no comment out of either camp as to how the talks are progressing.

It is interesting the Titans are negotiating with Wilson and this is the wild-card of the first day of free agency. The Titans have the first selection in next month’s NFL Draft and they are projected to take quarterback Cam Ward, formerly of the University of Miami.

Throughout the offseason the Titans have been mum on bringing in a veteran to challenge incumbent Will Levis for the right to backup or mentor a rookie quarterback, if one is selected in the draft.

Pro Football Focus deemed Wilson as a perfect match for the Titans earlier in the offseason. They predicted Wilson would sign with the Titans and the team would not select a rookie signal caller this season in the first round.

It is possible if the Titans do sign Wilson, or another veteran signal caller, they might have an interest in trading out of the top spot and perhaps stay with a veteran. Should Wilson be signed, it would be highly unlikely they will draft a quarterback with their top pick.

Wilson took over the Steelers’ offense in Week 7 last season after missing the first six games with an injury. Justin Fields led the team to a 4-2 record while Wilson was on the mend.

The Steelers lost out on re-signing Fields earlier Monday as he signed a two-year deal with the New York Jets worth $40 million, with $30 million guaranteed.
