LITTLE ROCK, AR — FRIDAY STRONG TO SEVERE STORM RISK
The next threat for strong to severe thunderstorms arrives later Friday afternoon and evening. The greatest threat for strong to severe thunderstorms will be across east and northeast Arkansas where these locations are under an enhanced to moderate severe risk.
POTENTIAL STORM THREATS
This will be a conditional storm threat, meaning that IF storms develop, they will likely be severe. Not all areas will receive rain or storms, but any storms that develop will likely produce large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.
RAIN & STORM TIMELINE
A few thunderstorms could develop during the late afternoon and evening Friday in central Arkansas. If they develop, they will quickly move northeast potentially strengthening a little further as they move into a better atmosphere conducive for severe weather. The northeast portion of the state has the best chance to see rain and storms Friday evening and most of west and central Arkansas might not see a drop.
STRONG WINDS + POTENTIAL WILDFIRE RISK
On top of the potential severe storm risk, this system will have some very gusty winds along with some drier air behind the dryline/front.
A wind advisory is out from Friday morning to early Saturday morning for gusts up to 45 mph. A red flag warning is out across west Arkansas for dangerous wildfire conditions.
The combination of strong winds and dry air could will lead to some elevated to critical wildfire conditions across west Arkansas but an even worse threat towards Oklahoma and Texas. Make sure you secure any loose outdoor objects and don’t start any fires!
SATURDAY STORM THREAT
Severe storms appear likely once again on Saturday, especially for areas in Mississippi and Alabama. There will be a small potential window for strong storms in southeast Arkansas late Saturday morning before storms move across the Mississippi River.
As the cold front moves through the state later Saturday, we’ll finally quiet back down to finish off the weekend.
