Pittsburgh Steelers lose sweepstakes for All-Pro fullback

San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk is heading back to the 49ers after they released him on a cheaper deal. Juszczyk is getting a two-year, $8 million contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Juszczyk visited the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, but the team could not close on a deal. There are still other fullback targets if the Steelers wanted to invest in one, but it will not be Juszczyk.

Juszczyk was a second-team All-Pro this past season, and he is a nine-time Pro Bowler over his time with the Baltimore Ravens and 49ers. The former Harvard fullback was a fourth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Juszczyk has over 2000 receiving yards but just over 200 rushing yards. Still, across his career, he has been the best NFL fullback and scored 24 touchdowns over the last 11 years.

Juszczyk, 34, caught 19 passes for 200 yards last season. His special teams stats are dropping, too, as he only averaged about seven per game in 2024

Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith loves using a fullback, but they did not have a true fullback last season. Connor Heyward was put into that role, but Juszczyk could have been a significant upgrade at that spot.
