‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Eric Dane Steps Out in L.A. For the First Time Following ALS Diagnosis

On the heels of Eric Dane’s heartbreaking announcement that he was diagnosed with ALS, the Grey’s Anatomy actor was spotted out and about in Los Angeles, as seen in exclusive photos captured by the Daily Mail. Dane rose to fame on the long-running medical drama playing Dr. Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan, and later landed a role in HBO’s Euphoria. He is 52 years old.

The images show Dane wearing a cream cardigan, white T-shirt, slacks, and loafers. He also has on a pair of tinted glasses, with another pair hanging on his shirt. He appeared to be a visiting a friend in L.A., where he also lives with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters.

Dane broke the news of his diagnosis via a statement shared with People: “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” 

He continued, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a progressive nervous system disease for which there is no cure. In the days following his announcement, Dane received a show of support from his Euphoria co-stars.

“I haven’t been able to speak with him yet,” Colman Domingo, who plays Euphoria‘s Ali, told People. “I just got the news yesterday too, and I’m wishing him well. I look forward to working with him.”
