Some very tragic details surrounding the death of a former child actor have been revealed.
Sophia Nyweide, known best for her roles in “Bella” and “Mammoth,” died April 14 at the age of 24. It has now been discovered that Nyweide was pregnant at the time of her death, according to TMZ.
The former actress was found dead in a wooded area in Bennington, Vt. about 25 miles from her home.
An exact cause of death has yet to be determined as an investigation is currently ongoing. Bennington police have stated that there is a possibility of foul play in her death.
Further details about the stage of her pregnancy have not been announced, although a source close to the situation told PEOPLE that Nyweide appeared to be in the early stages of her pregnancy.
“Sophie was a kind and trusting girl. Often this left her open to being taken advantage of by others. She wrote and drew voraciously and much of this art depicts the depth she had and it also represents the pain she suffered,” Nyweide’s obituary read. “She self medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it resulted in her death. She repeatedly said she would ‘handle it’ on her own and was compelled to reject the treatment that might possibly have saved her life.”
Nyweide made her acting debut starring as the title character in the 2006 romance-drama film “Bella.” She went on to appear in “Mammoth,” (2009), “An Invisible Sign” (2010) and “Noah” (2014).
“Sophie. A life ended too soon. May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better. Yes, we must all protect our children and do better‚” Nyweide’s obituary read.
