Avatar 3 fans adore Oona Chaplin’s Fire and Ash villain Varang
Disney has released the first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, confirming Oona Chaplin as Varang, leader of the Ash People.
James Cameron is the director of the film, which will release on December 19, 2025. It introduces a new Na’vi tribe described as “soot-covered” and “power-hungry.” In the trailer, Varang wields fire and declares, “Your goddess has no dominion here,” as her forces torch parts of Pandora’s forest.
At the 2024 D23 Expo, Cameron revealed he initially conceived Fire and Ash as part of The Way of Water but split it into a separate film due to the story’s expansion. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes,” the director said (via Empire Magazine). He also hinted the Ash People would be more violent than the Omaticaya and Metkayina clans.
Users online reacted strongly to Varang’s debut. One post with over 20,000 views featured the caption “VARANG IS EVERYTHING” along with multiple images of the character.
Another user declared, “She is my Fire Queen,” using hashtags such as #Varang and #AvatarFireAndAsh. A separate post noted, “Varang wears metal earrings. Remember, in the Na’vi culture they are prohibited from using metal. She really hates Eywa,” which received 33,000 views.
Other posts included comments like “i need to know everything about Varang” and “her face is so pretty and soft, oh the duality of a villainess,” often accompanied by stills from the trailer. The character began trending shortly after the trailer’s release.
Varang fights alongside Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who returns from the earlier films. The main cast also includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and David Thewlis.
