The ATLiens are getting a lot of talent back from dispiriting injuries — headlined by ace Spencer Strider (UCL) and 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. (ACL). Last season was a wash, given their ever-growing IL, but the Braves are eminently capable of a third 100-win season in four tries. Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies all have home run pop when available and locked in.
San Diego’s payroll increased despite shedding Ha-Seong Kim (Tampa) and Jurickson Profar (these very Braves). But last year’s 93-win livewire retained most of its core after pushing the Dodgers to the edge of the divisional round. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado are still marquee names with buoyant energies; Jackson Merrill finished ninth in MVP voting as a 21-year-old rookie.
Karl Ravech, David Cone, Eduardo Pérez and Buster Olney are on Sunday night’s call.
