Jason Pratt was working in a grad school laboratory doing microbiology research at Michigan State University when he decided to leave academia for beer. 

His parents were surprised. Although the post at Miller Brewing in Milwaukee involved science, his primary qualification when it came to beer was knowing where to find the cheapest pitcher.
