Billy Joel has delayed his Syracuse concert by a year, but another piano man is coming to Central New York soon.
Ben Folds will perform at the Capitol Theatre in Rome, N.Y., on June 18. Special guest Lindsey Kraft will open the show at 7 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 14, at 10 a.m. via etix.com. Prices start at $50; one dollar per ticket will go to Ben Folds’ Charity, Keys For Kids.
The concert is just one of two stops in New York state on the singer-songwriter’s “Ben Folds & A Piano Tour.” He’ll also perform at the Tarrytown Music Hall on June 20.
Folds, 58, is a piano-rock musician best known for his work as the frontman for Ben Folds Five and as a solo artist. Popular songs include “Brick,” “Army,” “The Luckiest,” “Philosophy,” “Rockin’ the Suburbs” and “Song for the Dumped”; a special edition of his 2005 album “Songs for Silverman” featured a live performance of “Landed” recorded at Syracuse University.
Folds has also collaborated with big names like “Weird Al” Yankovic, Regina Spektor, Amanda Palmer, author Nick Hornby, “Star Trek” actor William Shatner and a variety of a cappella groups. He served as a judge on the NBC singing competition “The Sing-Off” from 2009 to 2013.
