Alexander Isak’s reported request to leave Newcastle United could affect Manchester United‘s move for a new striker this summer.
It has been widely reported that Isak is looking to pursue new opportunities, and the St James’ Park club’s hierarchy are aware of his wish to consider his options. The Magpies striker has not travelled with the rest of the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour.
Isak has three years left on his deal on Tyneside but has constantly been linked with a move away. Liverpool and Arsenal have been most heavily-linked with the Swede who has emerged as one of Europe’s finest No.9’s in recent seasons.
And The iPaper claims that Man United-linked Benjamin Sesko is a possible replacement for Newcastle if Isak is allowed to leave. Newcastle are said to have been long-term suitors of the RB Leipzig striker.
It has also been claimed by journalist Ben Jacobs on X that the Magpies are looking at a move for Leipzig’s Lois Openda. If Newcastle did complete a move for the Belgian forward – Sesko’s departure would look increasingly less likely.
United have so far been frustrated in their pursuit of a new striker this summer. The Reds missed out on a move for Liam Delap, who swapped Ipswich Town for Chelsea, and have been linked with Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, who look set to join Arsenal and Galatasaray, respectively.
The club will have to sell to buy after splashing out on new forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho have informed United they would like to leave the club this summer, with all four being left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
It comes after Marcus Rashford was also left out before completing a season-long loan move to Barcelona on Sunday. It is understood that United will save around £12m in wages from Rashford’s move to the Camp Nou.
