Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s relationship is once again front and center following an awkward moment during his recent CBS News Sunday Morning interview in which the 24-year-old former cheerleader shut down a question when the 73-year-old legendary football coach was asked how they met.
“We’re not talking about this,” Hudson, who was seated off camera for the interview, interjected.
CBS’s Tony Dokoupil, who was interviewing Belichick, turned to Hudson.
“No?” Dokoupil asked.
“No,” she replied.
The exchange fueled more speculation about the role Hudson is playing in Belichick’s professional life. Belichick, who coached the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023, was named the head football coach at the University of North Carolina in December.
In a statement released Wednesday, Belichick blamed CBS for including the now viral moment in the eight-minute segment while defending Hudson, saying she was trying to keep the conversation focused on a forthcoming book about his coaching career.
“I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book,” Belichick said. “After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion. She was not deflecting any specific question or topic, but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track.”
“The final eight-minute segment does not reflect the productive 35-minute conversation we had, which covered a wide range of topics related to my career,” he added. “Instead, it presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true.”
CBS News released its own statement Wednesday afternoon, saying that the network and Belichick had agreed to “a wide-ranging interview.”
“There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation,” read the statement, attributed to a CBS spokesperson. “This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
The Athletic reported Wednesday that HBO was set to announce UNC as the latest subject of its docuseries Hard Knocks, but the deal fell apart due to Hudson’s “request to be heavily involved in the project.”

Belichick and Hudson meet on a flight from Massachusetts to Florida. TMZ later reports that Belichick struck up a conversation with Hudson, then a college student, over a textbook she was reading entitled “Deductive Logic.” Belichick even inscribes the inside of the book. Below his signature, he lists the years of his six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots:
