Cards come up short against Duke in ACC final, 73-62

A lot has changed since Dec. 8, but Saturday night’s ACC tournament championship game looked an awful lot like the first meeting between Louisville and Duke from over three months ago.

The Cardinals again carried an advantage into the break (five points in this game, four in the first) before allowing the Blue Devils to get hot from the outside and frustrate them defensively in the second 20 minutes.

The final score from Dec. 8: Duke 76, Louisville 65.

The final score Saturday night: Duke 73, Louisville 62.

Terrence Edwards was a one man show for U of L, scoring a game-high 29 points to wrap up a tremendous tournament where he averaged 25.0 points per contest. Chucky Hepburn chipped in 14, but went just 5-of-16 from the field and 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. The other five Louisville players who saw the floor combined to make just eight field goals, with no player scoring more than six points.

For Louisville, the loss rid them of the opportunity to become the first team in ACC history to finish last in the conference one season, and win the league’s tournament championship a year later.

For Duke, the win secured their 23rd all-time ACC championship (the most of any team in the conference), and their fourth in the last eight years.

I’m already over it.

Shake this off, get everyone rested, get Reyne as ready as possible, get a draw tomorrow, and let’s go on a run.
