Cause of death revealed for Atlanta rapper Young Scooter | What we know

ATLANTA — The death of Atlanta rapper Young Scooter has been ruled as an “accident,” according to a report from the Fulton County Medical Examiner.

The report states Young Scooter, whose real name is Kenneth Bailey, died after a wooden piece punctured his right thigh, leading to blood loss.

The medical examiner stated in the report that the injury was not a gunshot wound.

Instead, the medical examiner said Bailey “injured himself on organic (wooden) fencing material or woody debris” after he jumped at least one fence.

Atlanta rapper Young Thug took to X on Tuesday and said that the “Autopsy came back street got shot.” It’s alleged that “street” is a nickname for Young Scooter, which is the rapper’s Instagram display name.

Shortly after, the Atlanta Police released a statement debunking the claims, stating they were aware of inaccurate comments and social media posts regarding Bailey’s death.

“While we understand that many people are saddened by his passing, it is important to recognize that Atlanta police officers neither discharged their firearms nor used any force against Mr. Bailey,” the department said in its statement.

Bailey died on his 39th birthday following an incident in the Lakewood Heights neighborhood.

According to Atlanta Police, officers responded to a call about a dispute involving a weapon on William Nye Drive SE. Upon arrival, a man opened and then quickly shut the door on the officers. As police established a perimeter, two men attempted to flee from the residence. Bailey sustained a leg injury while jumping fences during the escape.

Officers said they provided aid at the scene before he was transported to Grady Marcus Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In a recently released 911 call, an unidentified woman, who claims to be with the neighborhood watch, is heard providing officers with information about men with guns at the house and a naked woman who tried to escape before being dragged back into the house. The caller also alleges that a child may be involved, mentioning a baby in the woman’s hands.

However, officers have said they could not find a woman at the home and did not have proof of anyone being dragged into a home.

Police are now seeking help in identifying the woman who made that original call. You can listen to a recording of it in the video below.

Bailey was a prominent figure in Atlanta’s hip-hop scene, known for collaborations with artists like Future and Gucci Mane. He gained recognition with his 2012 mixtape “Street Lottery” and the single “Colombia.” Throughout his career, he released numerous mixtapes and worked with various artists, including Lil Wayne, Migos, and Rick Ross.
