Two EF-4 tornadoes confirmed in Arkansas on Friday, first time since 1997

The National Weather Service believes a second EF-4 tornado hit Arkansas on Friday, March 14, 2025.The first was a tornado near Diaz in Jackson County, where estimated peak winds were 190 mph.The second was near Larkin in Izard County, with estimated peak winds of 170 mph.This makes a total of six tornadoes that touched down in Arkansas on Friday:Cave City: EF-3Diaz: EF-4Fifty-Six: EF-3Fitzhugh: EF-2Larkin: EF-4Paragould: EF-2This was part of a weekend of tornadoes, dust storms, and wildfires that killed at least 39 people.The tornado in Cave City killed three people. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders visited the damage over the weekend.Friday was the first time multiple EF-4 tornadoes hit Arkansas since March 1, 1997.On that day, three EF-4 tornadoes hit the state in the “I-30 Tornado Outbreak.” They killed 45 people.

CAVE CITY, Ark. —The National Weather Service believes a second EF-4 tornado hit Arkansas on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Cave City: EF-3

Diaz: EF-4

Fifty-Six: EF-3

Fitzhugh: EF-2

Larkin: EF-4

Paragould: EF-2

This was part of a weekend of tornadoes, dust storms, and wildfires that killed at least 39 people.

The tornado in Cave City killed three people. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders visited the damage over the weekend.
