Cheatham County couple prepares for high water level near the Cumberland River

CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — One Cheatham County couple has worried high water levels from the Cumberland River might affect their home.

Jody Vann and his wife Ginger Vann live in the River Road area in Ashland City. Jody told News 2 the water from the Cumberland River came dangerously close to their house. He said emergency responders have tried to reduce water levels before forecasted rain moves into the area.

While the Vanns are accustomed to living near the river, Jody and his wife worried that more rain might increase the risk of their home completely flooding.

“The first few times that we went through [flooding], it was very hard emotionally,” Jody said. “Unfortunately, we’ve gotten accustomed to it. We never like it. There’s a whole lot of work that goes in afterwards, but we have a whole bunch of friends and neighbors around here who always chip in and make it a lot easier.”

Jody said he’s anticipating several road closures on both the north and south sides of the river where roads are heavily affected by the high water.

If flood levels rise, the Vanns said they’re prepared to move all of their essentials to higher ground. Their backyard and playground were covered by floodwaters.
