Check out an up close look at BMS Fan Zone and field ahead of the MLB Speedway Classic

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WCYB) — News 5 was invited to get the first look at the “Fan Zone,” a 220,000 square foot area around Bristol Motor Speedway, dedicated to the fan experience.

The Fan Zone will open at noon on Saturday and offers fans live musical performances, the chance to buy food, drinks and merch – there’s even batting cages and pitching tunnels included with your ticket.

Robert Field is the MLB Senior Manager of Global Events.

“We’re setting the tone outside first and then we’re going to gravitate inside and that will be the next chapter of fun and energy that’s going to take place here at the speedway classic,” he said.

News 5 was also able to get on the field where crews have continued to work to transform the raceway into a major league marvel.

Murray Cook is the MLB field and stadium consultant for the Speedway Classic.

“We’ve turned a corner. We’re up to the tiny little details of the building,” Cook said.

Almost all signage is up, and the clubhouses are ready for the teams.

Construction crews say they were lucky with no delays in the process of turning the track into a baseball field and even got to check an unexpected box on Wednesday evening during the storms.

“We were excited to see some heavy rain to see what that did on site overall and in the dugout and took it very well so that was a good check in the box for us,” Cook said.

As we continue to inch closer and closer to the first pitch, the excitement continues to elevate.

“It’s an amazing place; it’s a huge place. It’s setting records. I think it will be a great opportunity for fans to see a baseball game in a different way and in a major league market as well, bringing two teams here so I think it’ll be a great experience for all fans,” Field said.
