Chris Pratt Makes an Admission We All Knew About Most of His Movie Roles

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe love Chris Pratt‘s portrayal of the smart-mouthed leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, so there’s an excellent chance they will be equally entertained by his most recent role in Netflix’s sci-fi adventure, The Electric State. When asked about the similarities between Marvel’s Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill, and his new role, John D. Keats, the MCU alum admitted they’re not all that different when stacked up against one another. Pratt said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“They’re both products of the same era, and so there’s a similarity in the sense of nostalgia for an era that’s bygone. Although it’s an alternate version, it’s the ’90s, and obviously, Quill has all of these pop-culture references to the ’80s, things that helped inform him and who he was before he left Earth at 13. Keats is also a product of that time. So in that regard, they’re similar. I guess as a character arc goes, they have a journey.

They find something bigger than themselves to want to fight for and are willing to sacrifice themselves for. There’s him talking to an animated character through the course of it. So I guess, even now, just in this interview, I’m realizing that there are similarities… He kind of feels like what Peter Quill could have been if he didn’t get picked up and go to space, but instead lived through a robot war and went on the run with his robot friend.”

Pratt joined the MCU over a decade ago when he took up the mantle of everyone’s favorite “Titan-killing, long-term booty call” in the original Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). The Russo brothers, who direct The Electric State, also began their glorious run for Marvel that same year as they helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now, after having collaborated on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame together, Joe and Anthony Russo are finally directing Pratt once again in Netflix’s new sci-fi flick.

Chris Pratt, Anthony, and Joe Russo have already had the good fortune of working side by side on two of the MCU’s most beloved films in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. So, it wasn’t all that difficult for the three creative minds to collaborate again on yet another genre piece. In fact, the actor revealed that the process of making The Electric State with the Russo brothers wasn’t all that different from the approach used in making their MCU entries together. Pratt said during the same sit-down:

“Not all that dissimilar to working with them on a Marvel movie — big budget, massive set pieces, lots of green screen, lots of animated elements. And the same sort of familial approach with a lot of the same crew from our previous jobs together, the ad department and camera department and writers. It was getting right back in the ring. It was really nice.

I found myself improvising a lot — the Russos are really open to that. They champion that, which is great. That’s been the case since working on Avengers with them and then through this film. I’m really proud of a moment that happens — well, I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s at the end of the movie, and it’s an improvised run that made it into the movie that I’m really proud of.”

Fans can check out Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown’s divisive team-up in The Electric State, which is now streaming exclusively on Netflix. The latest film by the Russo brothers might feature some of Hollywood’s top talent, but it currently registers a shockingly low 14% Tomatometer rating, thanks to all the poor reviews received from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, viewers have been much kinder to the new movie and, as such, those more positive reactions have resulted in a vastly better Popcornmeter score of 76%.
