Cristiano Ronaldo has ‘no problem’ with Rasmus Hojlund copying ‘siu’ celebration

Cristiano Ronaldo says that he has no problem with Rasmus Hojlund copying his ‘siu’ celebration on Thursday.

Hojlund, 22, came off the bench for Denmark to score a 78th-minute winner against Portugal in their 1-0 Nations League quarter-final first-leg victory in Copenhagen on Thursday night.

The Denmark international later confirmed that he was “not trying to mock” the 40-year-old with the gesture.

“For me, it was not a problem,” Ronaldo said. “I knew that this was not because he (Hojlound) did not have respect for me.

“I’m smart enough to understand that not only him but around the world people from other sports also do my celebration. For me, it is an honour.

“But tomorrow (March 23), I hope that he can see (me do) my celebration. It is okay for me.

“If I score, it’s good for me, but if I don’t score and someone else scores, that’s fine with me.”

When asked about the decision to copy the Portugal international’s celebration, Hojlund said: “It was for my idol. It wasn’t because I wanted to mock him or anything.

“He’s had such a big impact on me and my football career. It might be a bit ambivalent, but to score against him and Portugal, it’s huge.”
