The Dodgers got their doors blown off on July 4, losing by a whopping 17 runs to the Astros in Friday’s series opener, the most lopsided loss at Dodger Stadium.
Over their 64 seasons at Chavez Ravine, the Dodgers have lost a home game by at least 13 runs a total of 11 times. How they did in the next game is a mixed bag, going 5-5 with half of the previous 10 such instances a one-run game.

In all but one of these lopsided Dodgers losses, they played the same team the next day. In 1987, they were blasted by the Giants 16-2 on July 29 but won their next game two days later in Atlanta, 9-5.
One of those games was earlier this season, when the Cubs on April 12 handed the Dodgers their worst home shutout loss ever. Ben Casparius allowed six runs in that game, and infielder Miguel Rojas finished out the game on the mound, and both repeated their roles on Friday against the Astros.
The Dodgers lost the next day to the Cubs at Dodger Stadium as well. On Saturday, they’ll get another chance to atone for a record-setting home defeat, this time against Houston.
