Dustin’s First Alert Forecast: Chantal’s impacts continue across ENC today

Chantal officially made landfall this morning around 5:00 A.M. in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina, as a tropical storm with winds of 50 mph and gusts to 70 mph. The impacts will continue to be felt throughout the day and evening hours. Most of the area will see bands of showers and storms off-and-on, with a few breaks in the clouds and rain.

Later in the nighttime hours, the remnants of the storm will start to move in and move out fast as a low-end tropical depression, heading into southern and eastern Virginia Monday morning, leaving ENC with clouds and a few stray showers/storms. At least 1 to 2 inches of rain is what we could walk away with by this evening. Some could see at least 3 to 4 inches when all is set and done, enough to cause standing water and localized flash flooding. The tornado risk looks to be low, but not zero, as a few could produce a quick spin-up.

Those along the coast will see rough surf, as all area beaches from North Topsail Beach to Pea Island have high rip currents. A moderate rip current risk remains for Nags Head to Duck. Those risks could continue into Monday.

As we head into Tuesday, lingering showers and storms will continue as the remnants of Chantal pass to the northeast of ENC. Shower and storm chances continue through the week. The best chance looks to be on Thursday and Friday.

High temperatures remain in the mid-to-upper 80s and low 90s, and lows at night in the 70s, feeling humid.
