The San Francisco 49ers are moving on from Kyle Juszczyk, marking the end of an era for the veteran fullback.
News broke on Monday that the Niners plan to release the nine-time Pro Bowler nicknamed “Juice,” a move that will save the team nearly $3 million in cap space.
The 33-year-old fullback spent the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens before landing with the 49ers in 2017. After the news of Juice’s pending release broke, former Denver Broncos and Niners wide receiver Ed McCaffrey took to Twitter/X to suggest the FB could land in Denver.
“Ouch! What do you say @Broncos, trifecta?” McCaffrey tweeted, referencing the two other ex-49ers that Denver has signed. “You need a Joker, what about a Juice Box? @49ers fans 🙏 you @JuiceCheck44 you are going to make some team a whole lot better.”
Broncos incumbent fullback Michael Burton is also a 33-year-old free agent. Denver coach Sean Payton could make a big upgrade by replacing Burton with Juszczyk, but it remains if the Broncos (a) have interest and (b) have the salary cap space to splurge on a fullback.
If Denver does not pursue Juszczyk, it should be some consolation to Broncos fans that Payton already has a light version of Juice in Nate Adkins, a tight end/fullback hybrid who might take over FB duties full-time in 2025 if Burton is not re-signed.
