Elly De La Cruz goes off in 14-3 win against Texas Rangers

Try not to forget about how good the Cincinnati Reds’ Brady Singer was against the Texas Rangers. Normally, that wouldn’t be such a difficult task except that Elly De La Cruz stole the show in a way that only he can.

The Reds hammered the Rangers, 14-3, with De La Cruz supplying half of the Reds’ runs. He went 4-for-5 with two home runs and a career-high seven RBI. It was also the fourth multi-homer game of De La Cruz’s career.

The seven RBI tied a Reds club record for a switch hitter.

Reds Elly De La Cruz (44) celebrates after scoring a homerun during their game against the Texas Rangers on Monday March 31, 2025 at Great American Ball Park.

De La Cruz helped break the game open with a three-run homer in the second inning that landed on the turf berm in center field.

In the seventh inning, De La Cruz then hammered a two-run homer 436 feet off the centerfield batter’s eye. The exit velocity on the shot was measured at about 110 mph, according to MLB.com.

Collectively, the two home runs traveled 854 feet, and he managed to sandwich a sixth-inning RBI double in between the two moonshots.

De La Cruz had help, of course.

Making his first start for Cincinnati, Singer had the best debut performances for a Reds starting pitcher in the modern history of the club.

Singer twirled seven innings of shutout, one-hit baseball. He become the first Reds pitcher in the franchise’s history since 1900 to debut with seven scoreless innings and one hit or less allowed.

Out of the bullpen, Sam Moll allowed one run and Brent Suter two, but there was plenty of wiggle room for the Reds on this night.

The Enquirer will update this story.
