- If you want to preorder a Switch directly from Nintendo, you’ll need to make sure you have at least 50 hours of gameplay on the original Switch. Nintendo revealed the anti-scalper mechanism on its preorder registration page, where it says it will prioritize registrants who meet the gameplay requirements and have purchased at least a 12-month Switch Online membership.
- For Nintendo to track your gameplay hours, you’ll need to have opted in to share gameplay data with Nintendo. You can check if you opted in by logging into your Nintendo account and checking your privacy settings.

- The Duskbloods, a new game by FromSoftware, is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch 2. The teaser trailer debuted during Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct video presentation, where it was revealed that it’s set to launch in 2026 with famed Elden Ring and Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki at the helm. No other details were provided.
- The trailer and name are very evocative of Bloodbourne, the cult classic title that’s remained exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation consoles. But according to a post by Nintendo of America on X and The Duskbloods website, the new title differs in that it’s a player vs player vs enemies (PvPvE) format multiplayer game. FromSoftware may be known for single-player focused epics (with limited co-op) like the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, but well before Duskbloods launches we’ll be getting its first multiplayer-only game in the form of Elden Ring Nightreign.

- Nintendo has taken the wraps off a Pro Controller to go along with the newly detailed Switch 2. It’s been upgraded with two new “GL” and “GR” buttons on the rear grips, which can be used to remap other controls, a “C” button to enable voice and video chats, and a 3.5mm audio jack along the bottom.
- The rest of the Pro Controller’s layout looks similar to the Switch version, but the semitransparent plastic has been replaced with a matte black finish across the body of the controller and glossy white plastic on the top edge.

- Nintendo Switch 2 boxes will be red, too.
- The new system’s carts and game boxes will be a bright Nintendo red. I dig the color, not sure about the big banner at the top, though.

- Switch 2 is getting an unexpected sequel to GameCube racing game Kirby Air Ride, with Masahiro Sakurai — the original Air Ride’s director, not to mention the creator of both Kirby and Super Smash Bros. — returning to lead development.
- Air Ride, launched in 2003, is a four-player racer in which players control different-colored versions of Kirby across various vehicles, along with unlockable characters Meta Knight and King Dedede. Air Ride is relatively unique for its simplified controls, in which characters move forward automatically, leaving players to worry only about steering, boosting, and using Kirby’s trademark ability to suck up enemies and steal their powers.

- We knew a Mario Kart game was coming to the Switch 2, and now Nintendo has finally shared some real details in its latest Nintendo Direct. It’s called Mario Kart World, and it will be a day-one Switch 2 exclusive when the console launches on June 5th. It comes with a collar-tugging $79.99 price tag, but Nintendo also announced a $499.99 launch-day Switch 2 bundle that includes a download code for the game and is only $50 more than a standalone Switch 2. The company plans to share more about it in a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 17th at 6AM PT / 9AM ET.
- Mario Kart World features an open-world mode, in-game atmospheric effects that depend on “the time of day and weather conditions,” and up to 24 drivers per race. The open-world mode is called “Free Roam,” and it’ll sound familiar to Forza Horizon 5 players, letting users drive on or off-road around the world, “take scenic drives with friends, and take photos together at different locations.” There’s also a “Knock-out Tour” mode that lets you do a cross-country Cannonball Run-style checkpoint race.

- It wouldn’t be a new Nintendo console without a big Zelda release, and the franchise’s next entry is sending the princess to war.
- During today’s Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced the forthcoming arrival of Age of Imprisonment, a new installment of Koei Tecmo’s Zelda-inspired Hyrule Warriors series. Like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Age of Imprisonment is another prequel whose story connects directly with the larger tale unfolding in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. But this time around, the game looks even farther back into the past to focus on the battle Princess Zelda fought alongside King Rauru against Ganondorf.

- Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight, has a new release year window: 2025, as revealed in a very brief clip during today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.
- Silksong was first announced for Windows, Mac, Linux, and the Nintendo Switch in 2019. It was originally intended to be DLC for Hollow Knight, but according to developers Team Cherry, “it quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC, as initially planned.” The game will take place in a new kingdom, with new moves and new weapons at your disposal as well as new enemies to take on.

- Nintendo is launching a special camera accessory for the Switch 2 that will let you host video chats with your Switch friends. Simply called the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, it’s a camera on a stand designed to sit next to your TV while you play.
- You can use the new camera with GameChat, Nintendo’s new in-game chat system that lets you connect with friends online by pressing the new “C” button. During the Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo showed off a couple of different ways to use the camera. Your face can appear as an overlay on top of the game you’re playing, or it can show a video feed only.

- The button, present on the right Joy-Con directly below the home button, is square and marked with a “C.” The mysterious new button was shown briefly in the video debuting the Switch back in February and was present in every mock-up and leak of the console. - Nintendo has finally shared many of the key specs about the Nintendo Switch 2 as part of its Switch 2-focused Direct and said the system will launch on June 5th.
- The device has a 7.9-inch screen, but it’s still 13.99mm thick, like the first Switch. The LCD screen has a 1080p resolution and supports HDR and up to a 120fps refresh rate (with variable refresh rate). The Joy-Con controllers are bigger, too, and as hinted at, they can be used similarly to a mouse. (Though a footnote says that mouse mode will only work with compatible games.) And they stay connected to the Switch 2 via magnets.

- As much as I want to hear about DLSS…
- I wouldn’t expect this to be a spec-heavy event. Ever since the Wii, Nintendo has prioritized the full experience of its consoles over the race to the top on graphics and speed:
This shift came because of what Nintendo called its “blue ocean” strategy. The idea was that the increasing technological complexity of games was actually making them less appealing to many consumers.
