Fantastic Four Rumor: Chris Evans Joins First Steps Cast

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will reportedly feature a major cameo by Chris Evans, with the actor rumored to appear in the film according to a recent claim by a reliable scooper. While unconfirmed, the report has sparked speculation about Evans returning as a variant of either Johnny Storm or Captain America, potentially tying into larger multiverse events in the MCU.

Scooper @MyTimeToShineH posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Chris Evans is in Fantastic Four: First Steps.”

The claim has sparked speculation about Evans’ possible role in the film, which would mark another return to the Marvel universe following his brief appearance as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel Studios has not confirmed his involvement or clarified what character he may portray.

Set in a retro-futuristic 1960s-inspired version of New York City, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces a new version of Marvel’s First Family: Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

Director Matt Shakman confirmed they are the only superheroes on their Earth. The film follows the team as they confront Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his Herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).

If the rumor proves accurate, Evans could appear as an evil variant of one of his previous characters, possibly aligned with Doctor Doom as part of his multiversal team in Avengers: Doomsday. Another possibility is a cameo as a variant of Johnny Storm from the original Fantastic Four films released in 2005 and 2007.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will tie into Avengers: Doomsday, where the Fantastic Four are set to appear. Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne join the cast in undisclosed roles. Matt Shakman, Josh Friedman, and Cam Squires wrote the screenplay, with Eric Pearson completing the final draft.

When asked about recurring rumors of his return in an interview with Esquire magazine in January this year, Evans responded, “That’s not true, though. This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years – ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it. Yeah, no – happily retired!”
