Expect some roster movement for the Patriots in the next 24 hours.

The Patriots seemingly overfilled their roster after making 11 selections in the 2025 NFL Draft and remaining busy during the undrafted free-agent signing period.

There have been 17 UDFA signings announced or reported so far. If all of those hold true, that puts the Patriots six players over the 90-man roster limit. So, some cuts must be made.

Let’s break down the Patriots’ roster.

Quarterbacks (3)

Joshua Dobbs Drake Maye

Ben Wooldridge (UDFA)

• The Patriots traded Joe Milton III to the Cowboys for a fifth-round pick, then traded it and wound up selecting kicker Andres Borregales, long snapper Julian Ashby and cornerback Kobee Minor with the selections they ended up with. Then they signed Wooldridge as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana. The hope is that Maye stays healthy, continues to ascend as one of the NFL’s best young quarterbacks and the Ptariots never need to figure out what they have in their backup quarterbacks. Dobbs projects as the backup, and the Patriots will see what they have in Wooldridge in rookie minicamp, OTAs, minicamp, training camp and the preseason.

Running Backs (6)

FB Brock Lampe (UDFA) Antonio Gibson TreVeyon Henderson (R) Terrell Jennings Lan Larison (UDFA)

Rhamondre Stevenson

• Henderson is the most significant addition to this group. In an ideal world, he can be the Patriots version of Jahmyr Gibbs as a change-of-pace, big-play back to complement Stevenson and Gibson. Henderson is speedy, a good pass blocker and an accomplished receiver. The fullback returns with Lampe, who wasn’t overly productive at Northern Illinois but could end up as a lead blocker. Larison was uber-productive last season with 2,300 all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns at UC Davis in 2024. Expect Stevenson, Henderson and Gibson to make the roster. Jennings and Larison will try to prove they deserve roster spots.

Wide Receivers (13)

Kyle Williams (R)

• This is a crowded group. Baker, Bourne, Boutte, Diggs, Douglas, Hollins, Polk and Williams should all have roster spots, but there’s no way the team will keep eight players at the position, so there will be difficult decisions to be made this summer. Williams provides a speedy, big-play threat from the third round. If Diggs isn’t ready for the start of the season as he returns from a knee injury, it could create a roster spot for a younger player. This will be a fun battle to watch this summer, especially since Chism was a productive playmaker at Eastern Washington, and Webb averaged 18 yards per catch at South Alabama. Jiles could be a cut candidate.

Tight Ends (7)

Jack Westover

• Bell has some competition for the third tight end spot from Dippre, an Alabama product, and Scott, who went to Ohio State. Westover had some fans in the organization as a UDFA last year, as well. Ricci could split his time between fullback and tight end. Henry and Hooper are locked in as the top two tight ends.

Offensive Linemen (18)

Jared Wilson (R)

• Lock in Campbell, Onwenu and Moses as starters. The center battle will be decided between Bradbury and Wilson with Andrews, Brown and Strange as darkhorse options. The left guard competition comes down to Andrews, Brown, Layden Robinson, Sow and Strange. The Patriots could also try Wallace inside. This group looks a lot better than it did four months ago. There could be some cut candidates here, including Tyrese Robinson.

Defensive Tackles (9)

Milton Williams

• If Barmore is healthy from last year’s blood clots, then the Patriots should have some good depth on their defensive interior. Barmore, Farmer and Williams headline the group. Johnson, Pharms, Roy and Tonga are all reserve options with NFL experience. Farmer was a potential steal in the fourth round. After the draft, he said he expected to be selected on the first or second day. He has elite length and good athleticism as an attacking D-lineman. Harris could be a cut candidate.

Edge Defenders (8)

K’Lavon Chaisson Anfernee Jennings Truman Jones Harold Landry Titus Leo Elijah Ponder (UDFA) Bradyn Swinson (R)

Keion White

• The Patriots were somehow able to wait it out and take Swinson, a disruptive pass rusher, in the fifth round. Ponder is also an intriguing undrafted free agent who was tabbed as a potential sixth or seventh round pick by The Athletic’s Dane Brugler. Jennings, Landry and White are all potential starters. Chaisson and Swinson should bring some pressure on third down. Jones and Leo are potential cut candidates.

Linebackers (6)

• The Patriots seemingly were largely happy with this group after adding Gibbens and Spillane during the offseason and re-signing Elliss. Riley seems like a longshot as an undrafted free agent. You could also potentially toss hybrid safety Marte Mapu into this group.

Cornerbacks (10)

Kobee Minor (R)

• The Patriots added Minor as Mr. Irrelevant with the final pick in the draft then reportedly signed Crossley as an undrafted free agent. Consider Austin, Battle, Crossley, Davis and Gonzalez as outside cornerbacks and Bolden, Dial, James and Jones as slot options. Eliot Wolf said Minor can play inside and outside.

Safeties (11)

Craig Woodson (R)

• This group is loaded with NFL players. Dugger, Epps, Hawkins, Mapu, Peppers, Pettus and Schooler all played last season, and Woodson was a fourth-round pick. Minkins and Polk look like longshots. Perry also could be a cut candidate.

Special Teams (5)

• Some Patriots fans weren’t happy with the selection of Borregales in the sixth round and Ashby in the seventh round. The Patriots would be able to save some cap space by keeping Ashby over Cardona, who’s currently the only player on the roster with a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Patriots. Expect competition between Ashby and Cardona and Borregales and Romo this summer.
