Saudi Arabia to Sight Crescent Moon for Eid Al Fitr 2025 on Saturday

Rabat – The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia will sight the crescent moon for Eid Al Fitr 2025, marking the end of Ramadan on Saturday, March 29.

The country’s supreme court said in a statement that anyone who spots the crescent moon, either with the naked eye or through telescopes, should report it to the nearest court to register their testimony.

Anyone with information on whether the moon for the month of Shawwal, signaling the end of the month of Ramadan, is visible or not, should also contact the nearest center to help them reach the closest court.

According to Al Arabiya, the court also called on anyone capable of moon sighting to participate in the joint efforts as an act of virtue and cooperation.

Eid Al Fitr is the Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan and with it a month of fasting.

Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the crescent moon sightings. If the moon is sighted on Saturday, Saudi Arabia will announce Sunday as Eid Al Fitr.

Astronomy calculations suggest that the Gulf countries, in addition to several others, such as the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, are expected to celebrate the feast on Monday or Sunday.

Other countries like Morocco are expected to celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Monday.

The majority of countries celebrated the first day of Ramadan on March 1 this year. Morocco announced March 2 as Ramadan.

Eid Al Fitr celebrations begin with morning prayers, with Muslims –elderly and young– wearing traditional clothes.

Following the Eid prayers, families gather to share their first-morning breakfast in 29 or 30 days.

Sweets dominate the breakfast table. During Eid Al Fitr, children often also wear new clothes gifted to them as a way to celebrate this joyful occasion.
