Former All-Star Lance Lynn announces MLB retirement on wife’s podcast: ‘I’ve really enjoyed not being there’

Longtime MLB pitcher Lance Lynn is one of us now: watching baseball from the living room.

“Baseball season is upon us and I’m right here on the couch,” Lynn said on his wife’s “Dymin in the Rough” podcast Tuesday. “That is where I’m going to stay … I’m officially retiring from baseball.”

After 13 seasons and bookending his career in St. Louis with the Cardinals in 2024, the 37-year-old is calling it quits, he told the world alongside his wife, Dymin.

Lynn is a two-time All-Star and won the World Series in 2011 in his rookie season with St. Louis.

He spent seven total seasons with the Cardinals, beginning his career there for six years before returning for his final sendoff season before retirement.

In his final career game, Lynn pitched six innings and recorded a win. He gave up just four hits and one earned run in front of the St. Louis crowd and many family members.

“We had everybody there … we made it a thing that day,” Lynn said of his final game. “Retiring a Cardinal — last major league game in Busch Stadium with the whole family there — let’s call it.”

Lynn bounced around the league to five different teams between his two separate Cardinals stints, including the Twins, Yankees, Rangers, White Sox and Dodgers.

After a solid 7-4, 3.84 ERA season a year ago, Lynn noted that retirement wasn’t his only option, but he’s started to get accustomed to his life at home.

“There’s a couple different things, you start looking around free agency — obviously there was some interest from teams here and there — money didn’t work out,” he said. “Now you’re looking at: the season started, I’ve really enjoyed not being there.

“It’s kind of weird to say — you know, I’m always going to miss the teammates, competing, stuff like that — but I’ve not missed being there every day and being gone from home and stuff like that.”

One particular moment recently made it obvious to Lynn’s wife that he was hanging up the cleats.

“I knew when you bought a boat, it was over,” Dymin joked.

Some sort of honor to recognize Lynn’s career may be forthcoming.

“There might be a little something fun around the corner upcoming weekend,” he said. “So, stay tuned. But for Major League Baseball, I am done pitching.”
