[UPDATE 5:25 p.m. 8/6/2025] GA State Representative Edna Jackson has shared a statement about the shooting at Fort Stewart today, August 6.
My heart goes out to all of our brave soldiers at Ft. Stewart, their families, and the surrounding community following the tragic active shooter situation today.
It is with deep sadness that this tragedy happened to these brave man and women who risk their lives in support of our freedoms.
My prayers go out to all involved. I am also eternally grateful to the military and civilian law enforcement officers who responded and quickly contained the situation.
Additionally, the City of Flemington, GA has released a statement to WTOC concerning the active shooter incident.
[UPDATE 4:20 p.m. 8/6/2025] The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has shared with WTOC a mugshot for Sgt. Quornelius Radford, the suspect in today’s active shooting at Ft. Stewart.

[UPDATE 3:45 p.m. 8/6/2025] All victims are in stable condition and are expected to recover.
Three of the five soldiers wounded required surgery.
The suspect is in custody.
His name is Sgt. Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old logistics Sergeant.
He had no previous deployments and is in confinement awaiting charges.
Ft. Stewart has confirmed Radford did not use a military weapon and believe instead used a personal handgun.
He was previously arrested locally for a DUI.

[UPDATE 3:21 p.m. 8/6/2025] The City of Richmond Hill has issued a statement regarding the Fort Stewart shooting earlier today, calling it a “tragic active shooter incident.”

[UPDATE 2:56 p.m. 8/6/2025] A U.S. official has confirmed to WTOC partner CBS News the suspect is a male U.S. Army Sergeant.
[UPDATE 2:51 p.m. 8/6/2025] State Representative Al Williams has issued the following statement in response to the Ft. Stewart shooting:
I want to assure our community that I have been fully briefed on today’s incident at Fort Stewart and am coordinating directly on the ground with stakeholders and families as we respond to this tragedy.
At this time, there are no fatalities, and the shooter has been neutralized.
Fort Stewart is no longer under lockdown, and I commend our law enforcement officers and military personnel for their swift and effective response to protect lives.
My heart is with the individuals and families impacted by today’s events, and I will continue working closely with local officials to support those affected and ensure our military community remains safe and secure.

[UPDATE 2:11 p.m. 8/6/2025] Maj. Charlie Egan has confirmed that there will be a press conference at 3:30 p.m. today on the Ft. Stewart active shooter incident.

[UPDATE 1:56 p.m. 8/6/2025] Fort Stewart, Wright Army Airfield, and Evans Army Airfield is all clear, according to a social media post.
Gates are once again open following the shooting at Fort Stewart earlier today.
[UPDATE 1:50 p.m. 8/6/2025] Liberty County School System has also lifted its soft lockdown following the Fort Stewart shooting.
In a press release, Liberty County said, “There is no threat to schools based on the information provided by local law enforcement authorities.”
“Our number one priority is — and always will be — the safety of our students and staff,” the press release stated. “If you have any questions, please contact the Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office.”

[UPDATE 1:15 p.m. 8/6/2025] Appling County Schools have now also lifted their lockdown following the shooting at Fort Stewart.

[UPDATE 12:46 p.m. 8/6/2025] White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a message on X saying the president has been briefed on the shooting at Fort Stewart.

[UPDATE 12:39 p.m. 8/6/2025] Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield has provided an update on social media to the active shooter situation earlier today.
Five soldiers were shot today in an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.
All soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment. There is no active threat to the community.
Law enforcement was dispatched for a possible shooting in the 2nd ABCT complex at 10:56 a.m. The shooter was apprehended at 11:35 a.m.
The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and Fort Stewart lifted the lockdown of the main cantonment area at 12:10 p.m.
The 2nd ABCT complex is still locked down.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to treat the wounded Soldiers at 11:09 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation and no additional information will be released until the investigation is complete.
[UPDATE 12:30 p.m. 8/6/2025] The lockdown has been lifted for schools on Fort Stewart, according to a DoDEA Alert.
“The lock out/secure status for schools has been lifted. All schools, Diamond, Kessler, and Murray are now in normal operations. School dismissal will be at normal time.”
[UPDATE 12:20 p.m. 8/6/2025] According to Community Superintendent Mr. Brian Perry, Fort Stewart Schools are now in, “LOCK OUT/Secure status. This means NO one will enter or leave the school at this time, however, teaching and learning will continue. There is NO immediate threat to any of our schools at this time.”
[UPDATE 12:14 p.m. 8/6/2025] Appling County Schools said they are aware of an ongoing active shooter situation at Fort Stewart.
“Out of an abundance of caution and in alignment with our commitment to student and staff safety, all Appling County Schools are currently in a Level 1 lockdown. We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in communication with local law enforcement. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” wrote Appling County Schools.
Additionally, Rep. Buddy Carter, Savanah Mayor Van Johnson and the FBI have also provided statements about the active shooter at Fort Stewart.
[UPDATE 12:07 p.m. 8/6/2025] Ft. Stewart has been under lockdown status for over an hour. WTOC has crews on the way to the scene and Governor Brian Kemp has issued a statement on social media:

[UPDATE 11:57 a.m. 8/6/2025] Liberty County Schools have also gone on “soft lockdown” in response to the active shooter at Ft. Stewart.
Button Gwinnett Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary, and Snelson Golden Middle School are all currently on lockdown.
[UPDATE 11:51 a.m. 8/6/2025] Ft. Stewart has said that casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing, in a post on social media.
[ORIGINAL STORY] The Commander of Fort Stewart has issued a lockdown in the 2ABCT area of Fort Stewart including Wright and Evans Army Airfield, as well as the Fort Stewart Schools.
Law enforcement has confirmed there is an active shooter on the scene. Four people have been taken to the hospital and one suspect has been identified by law enforcement.
Community Superintendent Brian Perry issued a statement to Kessler Elementary School, Murray Elementary School, and Diamond Elementary School which reads:
“Per DOD alert the commander of Fort Stewart has issued a lock down. Diamond, Kessler, and Murray Schools are all in a lock down at this time. There is no immediate threat to the schools at this time. We will send a message when an all clear is announced.”
WTOC has contacted Ft. Stewart and was told that they are assessing the threat and will provide updates as they become available.
The 2nd Brigade area is also on lockdown and all gates on Fort Stewart are currently closed.
Fort Stewart officials advise the community to lockdown facilities immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors.
They say to keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership.
