Former child star Sophie Nyweide’s death at age 24 is far from a closed case, according to a report.
Police in Vermont told TMZ on Wednesday that foul play and other possible causes have not been ruled out after Nyweide’s body was found in a wooded area of Bennington on April 14. She was pregnant at the time, Entertainment Weekly reported after viewing her death certificate.
The Bennington Police Department previously told People they were investigating a “possible unintentional overdose.” The actor’s mother, Shelly Gibson, told TMZ that Nyweide was using drugs.
TMZ echoed a report that several people were hanging out with Sophie near the river before her death. The entertainment outlet added that a man was with Sophie when she died and is cooperating with police. He is not considered a suspect.

In a paid obituary, which appears to have been deleted, her family wrote that Nyweide “self-medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it resulted in her death. She repeatedly said she would ‘handle it’ on her own and was compelled to reject the treatment that might possibly have saved her life.”
Her last appearance in a major film was in the 2014 Bible epic “Noah” with Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson.
She played a supporting role in the Jessica Alba-starring “An Invisible Sign” (2010).
She also played the daughter of Michelle Williams’ character in the psychological drama “Mammoth” (2009).

On TV, she logged credits such as “Law & Order” and “What Would You Do?” a hidden camera show using actors in tense situations to elicit reactions from real people. That 2015 appearance would be her last, according to IMDB.
