From Costco to CVS: What will be open and closed this Independence Day

As Americans prepare to fire up their grills and gather for fireworks on Independence Day, many national retailers and services will observe the holiday with modified hours or closures.

  • Federal offices – All non-essential government buildings, including courthouses and administrative offices, will be closed.
  • U.S. Postal Service – No mail will be delivered, and most post office branches will be closed.
  • Banks – Major institutions such as Wells Fargo, Chase, Bank of America, and Citibank will be closed in observance of the federal holiday. However, ATMs and online banking remain available.
  • FedEx Freight and Logistics – Closed. Some FedEx Office locations may remain open with limited hours.
  • Costco – All U.S. locations will be closed for the day.
  • Most government-run services – Local city offices, courts, and DMV locations will not operate.
  • Walmart – Open regular hours.
  • Target – Open regular hours, though some locations may close slightly early.
  • Sam’s Club – Open with limited hours, closing by 6 p.m.
  • Trader Joe’s – Open with limited hours; most stores close at 5 p.m.
  • Whole Foods Market – Open with holiday hours that vary by location.
  • Aldi – Open, though some stores may reduce hours.
  • CVS – Open, though pharmacy counters may have shortened hours.
  • Walgreens – Open, with possible reduced pharmacy hours.
  • Open, but most locations will close early between 6 and 7 p.m.
  • Most locations, like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Starbucks, will be open. Hours may vary by location.
