- The actor said he was going to the ski town to give his sister Emily Osment “some privacy again” since he’s stayed with her after his home burned down in January
- He later said in a statement he is “absolutely horrified by my behavior” after police footage showed his arrest
Days before Haley Joel Osment was arrested and booked for alleged disorderly conduct and possession of cocaine at a ski lodge in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., the actor appeared on a podcast.
During the interview, the Blink Twice actor said he was heading to northern California to give his sister Emily, also an actress, “some privacy again” after his home burned down in January’s Los Angeles wildfires.
Osment, 37, appeared on an episode of The Three Questions with Andy Richter podcast that was published April 15 but recorded five days prior to his Tuesday, April 8 arrest.
On it, he discussed his acting career as well as losing his home in Altadena, Calif., in January. As the Sixth Sense actor told host Andy Richter, he has been living with his younger sister Emily, 33, as he takes the next steps to eventually rebuild his home.
“I think I’m right up to the edge of, like, no matter how well we get along, it’s still somebody in your house when you can’t just like kick back and not have someone there,” he said, when Richter, 58, asked whether Emily is “sick of” living with Haley yet.
“So I’m I’m taking the dogs up to Mammoth this week and I’m hopefully going to find a place to rent like in the next week or two so that I can give her some some privacy again,” said Osment.

Osment added during the podcast that he and his parents Michael and Theresa were all living with Emily “for the first couple of weeks” after the fires; Emily shared in a Jan. 26 Instagram post that her parents also lost their home in the Altadena fire.
The former child star described the situation as “a lot of people all living in the same house for the first time in like 25 years” during the podcast. “And then I’ve been there, I went to Japan for a while,” he added. “I’ve been taking little trips to give her the house to herself a lot, but also like three dogs in her house is a lot too. As sweet as they are, they can be loud.”
In March, Hannah Montana alum Emily filed for divorce from husband Jack Anthony after just five months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. They settled the divorce days later.

Osment said in a statement April 17 that he is “absolutely horrified by my behavior” on the day of his arrest after police bodycam footage obtained by PEOPLE showed him calling the arresting officer an antisemitic slur.
“Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,” he said. “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place. But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word.”
He continued, “From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”
The Mono County District Attorney’s office said April 17 that Osment’s arraignment is scheduled for June 7.
